Understanding behavior at work

DISC Framework

DISC describes how people see their environment and tend to respond to it. Its four behavioral styles give teams a shared language for understanding those differences and adapting how they communicate, collaborate, and lead.

The Four Dimensions

Initiative in the face of problems and obstacles.

Energy and initiative with people

Comfort with pace, change, and consistency.

Attention to standards, accuracy, and process.

One teammate may want to move quickly; another may need time to check the details. DISC helps you discuss those preferences and agree on a pace and approach that work for both.

Perceptions & impact

The Circumplex Model

Every DISC style reflects two key perceptions:

This is about how you perceive the world around you.

  • If you see it as favorable, you’re more likely to expect support, cooperation, and opportunity.
  • If you see it as antagonistic (challenging, full of obstacles, competitive), you expect resistance and stressors.

👉 This perception influences whether you approach situations with optimism and collaboration, or with caution and a readiness to push through barriers.

This is about your response style to that environment.

  • Active (assertive / controlling): You lean in, take charge, try to shape or change your environment.
  • Passive (measured / accommodating): You adapt, adjust, and work within the environment rather than trying to control it.

👉 This response shows up in whether you tend to drive action quickly or take a steady, thoughtful approach.

Workplace Impact

Each style has strengths, motivators, and growth areas. Knowing them helps you:

How to use the DISC assessment at work

The DISC assessment is a powerful tool to transform the way your team communicates, collaborates, and leads.

Give better feedback with DISC

Tailor your feedback style to each DISC profile to build trust, not tension. When you understand your team’s behavioral tendencies, even tough conversations become constructive.

Build a stronger team culture

See where teammates differ in pace, communication, and attention to detail. Use DISC to discuss those differences and agree on how to work together.

Improve communication across styles

DISC helps you understand whether a teammate prefers direct answers, detailed explanations, or time to talk things through. Use those insights to adapt your message and check that you understand each other.
